To our fans, supporters and curious clickers: 2011 is a year of new ideas, new faces and intense preparations for projects in Charlotte and Romania. Our projects for 2011-2012 are: |
1. Romanian and American Summer Camp Exchange |
In September 2010 we proposed to Rotary International Charlotte South and Rotary
International Athenaeum Bucharest to make an exchange of Romanian and American toddlers
for a month vacation in summer camps in both countries. Arrangements for financing
the project are in place as well as the support of a reputable organization called
“Mia’s Children “in Bucharest, who promised us 15 children and two chaperons. We
also contacted preschools in Charlotte and summer places in Asheville.

2. Toma Caragiu Park & Memorial House |
The second project is more personal. On March 4th 2012 we will commemorate 35 years
from the tragedy of the 1977 earthquake in Romania, when legendary actor Toma Caragiu
lost his life.
The Toma Caragiu Park was completed last spring, by Mayor Albu in Peris. Last fall, we completed the architectural plans for Toma Caragiu Memorial House (Casa Memoriala) by architect Emil Rosca to be built in the same park. Peris is situated symbolically half the distance between Ploiesti and Bucuresti. Toma spent many summers and weekends there, at his country home, where he created his TV theatre and film famous leading roles. We have been working for three years on this project for “Casa Memoriala Toma Caragiu“ and have supporters in Bucharest and in diaspora, including famous actors, writers and directors like Radu Beligan, Ion Cocora, Petre Bokor, Horatiu Malaele and many others. Offered and confirmed in October 2010, half of the funds are provided with generosity by the County of Ilfov's President C. Radulescu. As we decided to start building this year, we will need more funds by next spring to finish the interiors, and this will come from overseas private or corporate donations from Toma’s friends and fans. |

3. Soparlitza Stand-up Comedy Festival |
The other exciting project is based on an idea for a summer international stand
–up comedy festival called “Soparlitza” (every August 21- 29 in Peris, 20 minutes
from Bucharest Romania). The first edition will be in August 2012. President Ion
Cocora and actor/ director Horatiu Malaele (Toma Caragiu Association in Bucharest)
will organize “Soparlitza”.

4. Romanian Film Festival Charlotte, 2nd Edition |
The fourth project will be the second edition of RFFC (Romanian Film Festival Charlotte).
In March 2012, in collaboration with JCC Levine in Charlotte, RoSCEC will bring
three films at the 12th Jewish Film Festival:
1) “The Concert” by Radu Mihaileanu 2) “Gruber’s journey” by Radu Gabrea 3) “Live and believe” by Radu Mihaileanu We contacted ICR Bucharest to help us inviting the two film directors for a week in Charlotte NC, in March 2012. |
